NARCO RoundUp (APR20)

Wednesday, May 13, 2020

First, a big Ramadan Karim to everyone who is observing the Holy Month in these difficult times. Second, the NARCO RoundUp is a little late this month due to having to catch up on 7th grade math and 4th grade vocabulary. The RoundUp returns to its standard three-country format this month. Algeria’s political leadership is consolidating power both in the government and in the energy sector. Libya may be in the midst of something of a coup, even as the war rages on. But even Libyans themselves can’t agree about what is happening. Meanwhile, Mauritania is taking advantage of the coronavirus lull to look into former president Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz’s past dealings, but the lockdown is slowing offshore gas activity.
