NARCO RoundUp (JUL19)

August 8, 2019

As Bradley says, summertime and the living’s easy. Algeria is transitioning – from what to what is a little unclear. The wheels aren’t coming off, though, and that’s a good thing. Mauritania is going gangbusters – a successful presidential succession, a solid security environment, and investment on the rise. Libya, on the other hand, is in a tailspin: a full-blown political crisis, outright war, and a looming humanitarian catastrophe. September will bring the start of a new school year in the Maghreb and the lazy daze of August will be behind us.

POLITICS
Algeria: No Idea
Libya: More war
Mauritania: Stuck Between the Old and the New

SECURITY
Algeria: MoD Talking Points
Libya: Civilian Deaths Mounting
Mauritania: Lowered G5 Sahel Profile

OIL
Algeria: Fish or Cut Bait
Libya: Increasing Likelihood of Disruptions
Mauritania: Who's Next?
