If there is one takeaway from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s address on 18 February, it was: “I’m back, I’m the president, and I and I alone am the décideur.”
Tebboune’s speech wasn’t totally a bombshell because some of its announcements were expected (NARCO even wrote about them in January,) but it was a bombshell nonetheless because it portends prolonged political uncertainty and it comes at a time when Algeria needs to put its nose to the policy grindstone and not start doing the political hokeypokey – “you put your right foot in…”
