NARCO CLOSEHOLD: New Algerian Cabinet

July 8, 2021

By Geoff D. Porter

One week to the day after he was appointed by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Prime Minister Aymen Benabderrahmane announced his government. It’s not an awfully remarkable cabinet, but there are some interesting aspects that merit further analysis.

In particular, Benabderrahmane will keep the Ministry of Finance for himself (as well as being Prime Minister,) Sabri Boukadoum, a pedigreed diplomat, has been replaced by Ramtane Lamamra, a first-class diplomat as well, but also a savvier politician. Finally, Mohamed Arkab is staying on at the Ministry of Energy.
