NARCO ANALYSIS: Algeria Walks the Talk

September 10, 2026

By Geoff D. Porter

And that’s a wrap, y’all. Algeria severed diplomatic ties with the UAE. And the UAE gave Algeria 48 hours to close up its embassy in Abu Dhabi and its consulate in Dubai. The rupture had been brewing for a while, so it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. Algeria simply ran out of patience.

Algeria’s relationship with the UAE has been fraught for multiple reasons. The UAE’s meddling in North Africa and the Sahel. Its ransom payments to terrorists. Its joining the Abraham Accords. Its cozy relationship with Morocco. And with Israel. Its monarchy. Its lack of ideological rigor. Its venality. Consumerism. Instagramable debauchery. It was all too much for Algeria. Enough is enough. We’re done. Have a nice day.
